Plugin: Instagram

Instagram is a fun and quirky way to share your life with friends through a series of pictures. Snap a photo with a mobile phone, then choose a filter to transform the image into a memory to keep around forever. Instagram is built to allow you to experience moments in your friends' lives through pictures as they happen.

Instagram offers a public API for developers to programatically interact with its services.

This DSS plugin offers a set of functionalities that will let you pull data from the Instagram API, either about users or their "media" (photos and videos). Use cases can range from building automated workflows to fill dashboards and reports to measure the performance and engagement on Instagram of your brands and campaigns, to leveraging machine learning to predict how posts will perform and how to tune them for best engagement.

How to use

The plugin will let you pull data from the Instagram API on two types of entities:

  • "Accounts" (users): username, bio, profile picture, and metrics such as number of followers or media published
  • "Media" (photos or videos): caption, thumbnail, creation date, type, and metrics such number of likes or comments
Please note that in the case of the Media, it will in fact look for recent media of specific accounts, meaning that in both cases, the starting point is the Instagram account.

Depending on what input data is available, the plugin will let you choose between:

  • Recipes for the case where the input Accounts list is stored in a DSS Dataset, useful when there is a large number of accounts or when they are managed in an external system / database

  • Datasets (or connectors) when you want to pull data for one or a few accounts, entered manually.
